Caught on Camera

Hello!
This tune is one of a pair really - we always played it along with the BlueTack Man. It cracks along a pace when you get it under your fingers. It's in G, so just a cross fingered C natural needed. It was on the album Scatter Pipes from 2005 and isn't available anywhere. This is a great pair of tunes though - so definitely worth re-recording and getting out there!

The Bluetack Man

Hello!
It's tune written by Jonny Dyer today. A pretty little jig, fits so wonderfully on the wooden flute. Of course - if you can play it on the wooden flute you can also play it on the silver Boehm flute. The eponymous BlueTack Man's video is below! It was on the album Scatter Pipes, which isn't available to buy anywhere - maybe we should re-record it!
Enjoy!

Ormistons' Part 1

Hello!
One of the very first tunes I wrote for wooden flute today. It's a really long tune and it comes in two parts, so today is part 1. It's a jig with 6 parts, but it's not that tricky. It's called Ormistons' because that was the maker of the flute that I played at that time, so the flute gave me the tune.
Enjoy!

Hennessey's Gathering

Hello!
Today we have a tune on the silver Boehm system flute. It was written by Jonny Dyer many many years ago! It cracks along at quite a pace! It was on an early album, on the mash which we recorded over the millennium in the Old Vic Studio in Bristol - where they recorded The Archers.
Enjoy!

To Catch a Cat

Hello!
We're going back to the beginning! Right back to the early albums. We released Tune Twidding back in 2002 and it's not available for sale anymore, but we released a digital download version of Thumb Twiddling and on the mash and called it Twiddle On. So you can still get some of the tracks and this is one of them!

This is one of Vicki's tunes today. To Catch a Cat. It's a jig I wrote many years ago when I was trying to catch a cat that was coming into the house. A big black cat - I never did catch it, but I did get a great jig out of it! Dots are below and also a link to our recording of this on spotify.
Enjoy!

The Quantox Reel

Hello!
This tune was written as a marching tune for teaching weekends at Halsway Manor, but it was too hard for the beginners, so I ended up writing The Halsway Parade instead. But I still love this tune! So here it is for you. We decided that the pairing should go on Paper of Pins, so it did!
:)
Enjoy!

The Halsway Parade

Hello!
It's a brand new year and time to get these teaching videos up! Rather than try to do them all with a nice snazzy background I've decided that if the tune has been taught on my Nyckelharpa Effect Blog, then it's coming over here. Better to get the tunes up and out into the wild!

So here is The Halsway Parade. A tune I wrote for all the participants at the Nyckelharpa weekend at Halsway Manor to process to. It can be hard to find a tune that everyone knows that is easy enough for beginners to learn quickly, so it's my intention to teach this tune to everyone!
Enjoy!

Elegy - for Double Bass

Hello!
We decided that we wanted to film a version of the original Elegy - which was written for double bass and piano. On Twelve Months & a Day it was recorded on cello-pitched nyckelharpa, but it was actually written in this key for double bass. So we recorded and filmed it and here it is.
If you're a bass and want to play it you can buy the dots and a minus one mp3 of the piano, then click the button!

Piggelunkschottisen

Hello!
This tune is from our album Paper of Pins. A really groovy schottis. Piggelunk is a dialect word from Jönköping meaning hedgehog, or so I've read on the internet. I suspect however that Pigge Lunk was a cartoon character created by Gösta Knutsson in the 1950s. I'm still trying to find out! But it's a jolly little tune anyway! Enjoy!

Bröllopsgåvan

Hello!
This tune is from our album Paper of Pins and was written after I had received a wedding present of a säckpipa. We had been married a few years at this point and it remains an amazing present that has definitely saved my bacon on occasion!

Skomakaren

Hello!
I've run a couple of säckpipa (Swedish bagpipes) courses at the wonderful Halsway Manor in Somerset, so I thought I would post up the four säckpipa tunes that we've put on two of our albums. So this entry is all about Skomakaren - The Shoemaker.
Enjoy!
