Pinky and the Cradle

Hello!
The last tune on the final track is a slip jig called Pinkie and the Cradle. Everything I wrote yesterday is equally valid for today's entry.... It's all about Jonny breaking his little finger. Watch the video sleeve note below to find out more about that. Originally it was written for a contra dance. You can see it in the context of the dance below. It's also been taught as a nyckelharpa #tunefriday, so that video is below too. It's a great little tune that has also appeared via Skype link in Vicki's nyckelharpa show!
Enjoy!

Polska efter Calle Svankvist

Hello!
It's the final track on the album now and it consists of three tunes, a polska and two slip jigs. So this is the polska. It should really be played on a kontrabasharpa, which means that the melody is all on the top string of the nyckelharpa and there should be an A drone underneath it. There's a video below of me playing it on a kontra, I play it in C minor and then D minor in that video and swap drones half way through.
Enjoy!

Fiddling About

Hello!
We're back to contra dance music today and this is the tune that is in the middle of the song Grandpa Joe. We love playing this for dancing, it's so jolly! It gets played on the fiddleharpa - but is quite playable on the normal nyckelharpa. :)
Enjoy!

Midsommarn

Hello!
Today we have the third tune in the set that on the album is called Midsommarn and this is Midsommarn itself.  Again this is a silverbasharpa tune that can be played against a CD drone on a standard modern nyckelharpa. The run in bars three and four of the B part are the tricky part on the nyckelharpa.

Marsch efter Calle Svankvist

Hello!
Today we have the second tune in the set that on the album is called Midsommarn (that tune is tomorrow!) Again this is a silverbasharpa tune that can be played against a CD drone on a standard modern nyckelharpa. But it works just as well on a kontrabasharpa with a G drone, see the trio video below.  So who was this Calle Svankvist, the fact that this tune works on either kontrabasharpa and silverbasharpa could help us to date him.... Watch this space to find out!

Calle's Brudmarsch

Hello!
Today's tune has been added because it's very, very special. It forms part of a set of three tunes that are written for the silverbasharpa - that's an old style nycklharpa, a gammalharpa. It's a drone instrument that all four strings are played at once. (Or at the least three of the strings). It was recorded onto the album using a standard modern three row chromatic nyckelharpa, but in the stop video below it's played on a silverbasharpa. We have a few of these Calle Svankvist tunes. We'll give more information on the source at some point in the future - there's a whole series to be had there!
